Jim Staley enlisted in the U.S. Navy in September 1950. After completion of the Electronics Technicians training program at Treasure Island he was assigned to USS LST 561. Upon expiration of his enlistment he returned to college and acquired a Masters degree in Electrical Engineering. After several years in industry he spent the remainder of his career in education teaching electronics.
